UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed in Rockford Car Crash Identified


UPDATE (3/1/16): The pedestrian killed Monday night after being hit by a car in Rockford has been identified.

He is Donald Clapper, 75, of Rockford. An autopsy found the preliminary cause of death to be blunt trauma of the chest.

The death is under investigation by the Rockford Police Department.


UPDATE (7:58 p.m.): Investigators say a pedestrian died after being hit by a car. 

The crash happened just after 6pm.  Police say a pedestrian was crossing Charles Street at 24th Street when a vehicle hit him.  He was transported to a local hospital, but passed away from his injuries.


Rockford Police are on the scene of a major accident near East High School.

Police is advising drivers to avoid Charles and 24th Street for the next several hours due to a car crash.  We have a crew on the way to the scene and will have an update as soon as one becomes available.
