UPDATE: Police say there were 13 armed robberies across Rockford since 3 pm Tuesday afternoon, and they may be the work of the same group of people.
Police confirm to Eyewitness News a stolen gold or beige Toyota Camry with the license plate number ‘S 380716’. Police say there were four suspects in the car, ranging from 14 to 18 years of age.
Police also releasing a citywide alert to warn residents of the rash of robberies, saying if you see anything suspicious to call police immediately and not to confront the suspects.
Rockford police are investigating a series of armed robberies within the past few hours, many with descriptions matching a series of other armed robberies from over the weekend and Monday night.
They are searching for two black males, one believed to be 18, the other in the 14-15 range, both armed with handguns.
At one robbery scene in the 900 block of 21st Street, police say the pair confronted the victim with weapons in a house and demanded their wallet and personal items. They then drove off in a gray vehicle.
They believe that robbery is connected to at least five other robberies on Rockford’s west and near east side Tuesday night. More on those armed robberies here.
There are reports of at least one and possibly two other armed robberies which may be unrelated to the others.
Eyewitness News will stay on this story and bring you more on this developing story as we get more information.
