Winnebago and Boone County residents will get their chance to speak out against a controversial railroad project.

Two public hearings are scheduled for Tuesday.  One will be held at the Community Building Complex in Belvidere at 10 AM, the other at the Cherry Valley Fire Protection District Station 2 on Blackhawk Road, which at 5:30 PM.

The Stateline portion of the Great Lakes Basin Railroad Project runs from the Chicago/Rockford International Airport through Boone County, then north into Wisconsin.  Supporters say the railroad will create jobs, as well as make freight operations more efficient.  However, opponents say it’ll cause property values to plummet.
