UPDATE:  Police have resolved the stand off after nine hours of surrounding the Orangeville home.

Investigators say a woman called police because her ex-husband had a gun and was making threats about harming both her and her dog. She was able to take the animal and escape.

Police say the man did come out of the house peacefully after negotiators spoke with him.

“We were able to contact a family member, who came out from the Chicago area, and when he arrived, we were able to go into the perimeter with the son and the negotiation and EMT people,” said Stephenson County Sheriff Dave Snyders.

Police have not yet released the man’s identity.
