UPDATE (2/2/18): The Winnebago County Coroner confirms to Eyewitness News that the victim of Tuesday’s serious car accident in Rockford has died.
She is Jateyrrica Scott, 24, of Rockford. Her autopsy confirmed she died as a result of the crash.
Her death remains under investigation by the Rockford Police Department.
A busy Rockford intersection was shut down for hours after a one-car crash left a 24-year-old woman with life-threatening injuries Tuesday night.
The accident happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Sandy Hollow and Kishwaukee. When police arrived, the found the driver of the black Chevrolet Malibu outside her vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment for critical injuries. Her identity has not been released.
Police were on scene reconstructing the crash site well into Wednesday morning. The victim’s vehicle was towed away around 6 a.m. and the scene was finally clear by 6:30. Police have not released details on what may have caused the accident.
Early Wednesday morning there was a second accident near the intersection as a result of the area being closed down; a truck jumped a curb causing minor damage to the vehicle, the driver was not hurt.
