UPDATE: City of Beloit Police officers were called to a possible sighting of Bartholomew Baumann just before 6:30pm. Police say a citizen spotted the subject entering a corn field near McKinley north of Burton and was last seen headed east towards Afton Rd. Several officers from the City of Beloit Police Department, Town of Beloit Police Department, and a Rock County Sheriff K9 unit responded to set up a perimeter and search the area. At approximately 7:30 P.M. officers located Baumann and took him into custody without incident. Baumann was transported to the Rock County Jail and held on the felony Department of Corrections
Multiple police agencies in Southern Wisconsin are searching for a man on the run for beating a woman, and stealing from a local Woodman’s grocery store.
Police say that around 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, Town of Beloit officers were contacted by a female who alleged she was the victim of domestic violence, saying she had been struck repeatedly in the face and head, dragged by her hair, held against her will, and choked during the incident, which occurred Monday night in the 1900 block of McKinley Avenue.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Bartholomew “Bart” Baumann, who is on felony probation for battery to law enforcement, and has an active felony warrant from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections for absconding.
Baumann’s vehicle was found in the 1900 block of McKinley Avenue at around 1:25 a.m. on Thursday morning by Town of Beloit Police officers, who had the vehicle towed. A campsite was found nearby.
Officers from the Town of Beloit, Rock County Sheriff’s Office, City of Beloit, Janesville Police Department, and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, began a coordinated search fo the area.
A report was received that a man matching Baumann’s description had stolen multiple items from the Beloit Woodman’s Food Market. Police used a K9 and several drones, but were unable to locate Baumann.
He is described as a white male, with dark hair and possibly a full beard, 5’4″ and 160 lbs, with facial tattoos.
He was last seen wearing a military-style backpack, black t-shirt and tan pants.
Police warn that the public should not approach Baumann, as he is known to be violent, and possibly armed.
Police say he is wanted on charges of battery, strangulation, false imprisonment, and disorderly conduct.
