Winnebago County Internal Auditor Roman Gray has been appointed as Interim Purchasing Director. He replaces Sally Claassen, who resigned after irregular purchasing practices were reportedly discovered by county officials during the budgeting process. The FBI has been asked by the county to investigate.
Gray holds a Bachelors of Business Administration-Accounting, has been with the County for nearly 8 years and is a certified internal auditor and a certified fraud examiner. County officials say he will report to Finance Director Bryan Cutler, who had assumed purchasing responsibilities after Claassen resigned.
Winnebago County Chairman Scott Christiansen says he has also formulated new purchasing policies and procedures to prevent potential fraud or abuse of public monies.
Winnebago County is set to shuffle responsibilities of its purchasing department in the wake of a federal investigation into spending irregularities.

In August, Sally Claasen was placed on paid administrative leave from the position after an internal investigation raised questions into purchasing procedures.
She resigned on September 11 but has not been charged.
