Wednesday marks 10 years since a shooter opened fire on the Northern Illinois University campus, killing five people and injuring more than a dozen others.
Remembrance events began last Friday, with a candlelight vigil for each of the five students killed, Catalina Garcia, Daniel Parmenter, Gayle Dubowski, Julianna Gehant and Ryanne Mace.
Wednesday, there will be a laying of memorial wreaths and tolling of bells outside of Cole Hall at 3:06 p.m., the exact time of the shooting back on Valentine’s Day 2008.
A reflection walk and first responder recognition are also planned.
At NIU’s student center, items sent to the school from around the world in the days following the shooting are on display.
