Vice President Joe Biden launched a new Facebook page Thursday, coinciding with the social media site’s 12th anniversary.

“Welcome to my Facebook page” Biden announces in a video message.  “I’d like it to be a place where we can talk directly about the issues that matter to both of us.”

Biden participated in a chat about his new Cancer Moonshot initiative, for which Obama has pledged $1 million over the next two years.  “Platforms like this one have the potential to be incredible forums for constructive debate,” Biden said.

The discussion comes after President Obama announced last month during his State of the Union address that he was forming a White House Task Force on Cancer.  Biden chairs that group.  The fight against cancer is a personal one.  Biden’s son, Beau Biden, died in May from brain cancer.

The task force held its first official meeting Monday.
