A former North Boone High School teacher and coach, Scott Brady, is accused of sexually assaulting a student. His trial began today.
Prosecutors and the defense argued over two main points: how old was the victim and was she a student at North Boone?
The prosecution says the victim, referred to as E.G., was enrolled at North Boone High School, in a program called Running Start, for which she took all of her classes at Rock Valley College.
On the witness stand, the victim testified that she was the one who initiated the sexual relationship with the former teacher.
She also stated that she was 18 at the time and manipulated Brady after she was thrown out of her home.
Brady also took the stand in his defense.
The defense team argued that he couldn’t have had sex with the victim before she was 18, due to a medical issue.
“I have a testicular mass that was undiagnosed at the time,” Brady testified. “It’s since been diagnosed, but it was causing me to lose a tremendous amount of weight. I was shaking all the time. For the first time in my life, I started calling off work, now and then, which is something I do not tend to do.”
The court recessed after two rounds of cross examination.
Brady is due back in court Thursday afternoon.
