UPDATED: The Ogle County Coroner confirms that a man was killed during an accident at the Orchard Hills Landfill in Davis Junction Wednesday morning.

The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office says while several trucks were unloading items at the landfill, one of the trucks rolled, crushing the victim, a man in his 40s, who was assisting unloading one of the trucks.

He has been identified as 48-year-old John Overstreet, of Davis Junction.

Overstreet was at the rear of his trailer, removing his tarp, between his trailer and another semi-tractor that was parked behind him. The driver of the second trailer, Dariusz Achramowicz, a 55-year-old man from Elmwood Park, IL, had stopped and exited his vehicle to take the tarp off his trailer when the vehicle began rolling forward. Overstreet was pinned between the semi and the trailer.

New Milford EMS arrived on the scene shortly before 7 a.m. and tried to revive Overstreet, but were not successful. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Orchard Hills Landfill is located at 8290 IL-251 in Davis Junction and is operated by Advanced Disposal.

Investigator from OSHA will be investigating the accident.
