Victim identified and arrest made in Machesney Park murder

The identity of a 70-year-old woman found murdered in Machesney Park has been identified.

The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office identified her as Sharon Stoner of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. 

Detectives identified a suspect as Kent Stoner, 46. Stoner is the victim’s son. Stoner was interviewed and the case was reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. He was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder. He is being held in the Winnebago County Jail. 

Deputies were called to an apartment on the 200 block of Northway Park Road around 10 a.m. Monday morning. Sharon Stoner was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead on the scene. 

The Winnebago County Coroner says she died from “traumatic injuries.” An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.
