One person is dead after being hit by a vehicle while inspecting a flat tire on their car on U.S. Route 20.
Stephenson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene around 7:30 Tuesday morning.
Witnesses reported that a gray Honda had stopped in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 20, just east of Browns Mill Road, due to the flat tire. The driver had gotten out to inspect it, when a blue Nissan, also driving eastbound in the same lane, saw the Honda and attempted to swerve out of the way. At the same time, the driver of the Honda ran to avoid the Nissan, causing the Nissan to hit the driver.
The driver of the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
The names of the victim and other driver are being withheld as the investigation is ongoing and the victim’s relatives are informed of their death.
