Volunteer Win-Bur-Sew Fire Department receives grant for equipment upgrades

The Win-Bur-Sew Fire Department’s relationship with a nearby business is a partnership that’ll be keeping the whole district safe.

The department, which is comprised almost entirely of volunteers, received a $5,000 grant from the Marathon Petroleum Company.

Firefighters will use the money to purchase hoses and other equipment that will make their jobs safer and more efficient.

Marathon has a location just down Cunningham Road from the Win-Bur-Sew Fire Station.

Fire Chief Rob Martin says the company is a great partner, “Because of the nature of their business and the potential they have for things that — because of the products they use, diesel fuel and regular gasoline — we try to work with them and have a good relationship with them.”

Over the last couple of decades, the department has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant money or equipment.
