Walmart officials announced plans Wednesday to do $87.5 million in store improvements and innovations, in Illinois in 2019.

The plans call for remodels of sixteen stores, including the Rockford locations on Walton Street, Northridge Drive and Riverside Boulevard, and the Dixon location on S. Galena Avenue.

In addition to the remodeling, Walmart also plans to add its free grocery pick-up service to forty stores, grocery delivery service to thirty seven stores and “Pickup Towers” to twenty two stores, according to a news release.

Fifty Illinois stores are set to get automated floor scrubbers, while fifty two stores are scheduled to get new automated delivery truck unloaders, the release said.

“We’re committed to giving our customers the best experience both in store and online, and that starts with making it easy to shop how and when you want,” said Walmart Vice President and Regional General Manager Dale Murphy. “We’re really excited to expand these popular innovations in communities across Illinois.”
