Mayor Dan Pope and Police Chief Greg Stevens issue statements regarding the Dallas Shooting Incident

Lubbock joins the rest of our nation in expressing our thoughts and prayers for the Dallas Police Officers as well as the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Officer who were killed in last night’s senseless sniper attack. Our hearts are with these individuals, their families, friends, the people of Dallas, and law enforcement communities throughout our nation. More information is forthcoming, but it is important to realize that these officers died defending the public’s right to engage in a peaceful protest. As Americans, we mourn these heroes in uniform who lost their lives while protecting us and protecting our freedom.

Daniel M. Pope

The Lubbock Police Department stands with the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police Department as we mourn the tragic loss of their police officers. Our families grieve with theirs, and we pray for them and for the recovery of the remaining wounded officers. We ask that the citizens of Lubbock, along those across our great nation, support and stand firmly behind all of the Dallas area law enforcements officers who must continue to serve under such extraordinary circumstances throughout the next several days and weeks. I will hold a brief press conference in the LPD media room at 2:00 pm in lieu of individual interviews.
