Governor Scott Walker (R-WI) signed into law a series of bills Friday, all aimed at tackling drug abuse.
They’re part of what’s become known as the HOPE Agenda (heroin, opiate, prevention, and education). The new measures block access to prescription drugs for those who don’t need them and provide a holistic response for those suffering from addiction and abuse.
“It’s not just about passing legislation into law,” said Walker. “It’s really about drawing attention and bringing groups of people together from government, law enforcement, health care, non-profits, the faith-based community and others, to deal with this issue, knowing that the addiction is so strong that we need to have all hands on deck to help out in this regard.”
Walker also said he plans on committing $2 million to treatment and diversion programs across the state.
