ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford airport is asking residents to say “no” to a proposed airport in Peotone.
Leaders from the Chicago Rockford International Airport and local and state officials are asking residents to contact Gov. J.B. Pritzker in protest of the project.
They argue that there is no need for an additional airport in the Chicago region, because Rockford is one of the top 20 cargo airports in the country.
Supporters of Peotone’s construction recently requested $150 million in funding from the state.
Discussions about the new airport have been on going for the past 20 years.
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Rockford) sent a letter to Pritzker this week, advocating against the Peotone airport.
