The funding fight between Winnebago County and its District Court enters a new phase.
The court hired legal counsel to take action against the county for the budget dollars Chief Judge Joe McGraw says it needs to meet Supreme Court mandates. Winnebago County Board Chairman Frank Haney condemned the move.
“This move is dangerous,” said Haney. “It essentially hijacks representative government and silences voters who get to elect their board representatives every four years.”
McGraw has said in the past the county has given him now choice because of court mandates he must legally follow. The county is dealing with a multi-million dollar budget deficit.
