The Winnebago County State’s Attorney has eyes on a new job.
Joe Bruscato (D) announced Monday he’s now a candidate to become the next 17th Judicial Circuit Judge. The current one, Judge Rosemary Collins, is retiring. Bruscato said if elected, he’ll prioritize some of Collins’ initiatives, including her work to curb domestic violence.
“I just truly believe in my heart that I have something valued to contribute to the judiciary that will allow me to handle the challenges that are going to come,” said Bruscato. “I’ve enjoyed being a part of the criminal justice process as the State’s Attorney. I’m looking forward to the chance of continuing that as a judge.”
Bruscato’s first test will be in the March primary election. His current term as State’s Attorney expires in 2020. Bruscato said he’ll step down if he wins.
