If you have a cat or Pitbull, starting this week, you can get them spayed or neutered for a discount or for free.
Winnebago County Animal Services (WCAS) is offering the promotion as they take part in World Spay Day. The free service is being offering through Saturday, March 4.
If you qualify as low-income and own a cat or Pitbull, WCAS will provide a free spay/neuter voucher. If you do not quality as low-income, you can pay $25 for a voucher. You can obtain a voucher at Animal Services during business hours and schedule the surgery with a local veterinarian.
There is a limit of one voucher per household, and only a total of 50 $25 vouchers will be given out.
“Spaying and neutering by a certain age reduces or even eliminates the chances of reproductive cancers,” says Dr. Jill Sullivan, Administrator at Animal Services. “It also helps reduce the number of animals that come into the shelter.”
