Rockford, Ill. — Frank Haney announced Thursday afternoon he will not seek re-election for Chairman of the Winnebago County Board in 2020.
Haney revealed the news at the Rockford Chamber of Commerce luncheon during his State of the County address.
He told the people in attendance he instead is looking at creating a permanent Chair position for Winnebago County board, eliminating a voter chosen chairman meaning that person would go back on the board.
This stems from the current county board voting to force through a change to Haney’s powers as chairman. The ordiance takes financial and management responsibilities away from the chairman and gives them to the city administrator.
Haney had said those actions by the board memmbers would do more harm than good.
