Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office getting two new drones

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is getting two drones thanks to a $9,600 grant.

The drones will be fitted with both visible and thermal spectrum cameras.

Police say these devices will help during active shooter incidents. They will also help document crime scenes and car crashes.

The drones will be deployed during floods to asses areas that would have otherwise been difficult to reach.

The money is coming from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois.
