The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department was able to save a man’s life on Thursday, by using a K-9 Bloodhound to locate a suicidal subject.

Police say they received a call at 8:45 a.m. about a suicidal subject in the 2100 block of Welworth Avenue.

The caller told police that the man had ingested a large amount of prescription medication in a suicide attempt, and then went walking.

A Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the scene with K-9 officer Sadie, and the two were able to track and locate the man several blocks away.

The man was taken to a local hospital and given treatment, and survived the overdose.
