Wisconsin Police Officer Nearly Hit by Own Car

News

A Wisconsin police officer was out on a call when she was nearly hit by her own cruiser, the ordeal caught on dashcam.

The crash happened over the weekend on the I-94 bridge in Hudson which crosses over into Minnesota.  Dash cam video taken from the hudson police officer’s cruiser shows her walking away while helping a stranded motorist with a flat tire in the far left lane of the interstate bridge.

According to Hudson Police, a pickup truck whose driver apparently did not see the police car rear-ended the cruiser, pushing it towards her.

On the video, the officer sees the crash and jumps out the way before her car can hit her.

The unidentified officer was not injured.

The driver of the pickup was identified as 31-year-old Derik Sands of St. Paul. He had non-life threatening injuries, according to the Minnesota State Patrol, which assisted in the investigation.  No word on whether he has been cited.

Police say it is a reminder of the need for drivers to be aware of emergency vehicles, slow down and move over.
