Woman, 21, Intended Shooting Target Suffers from Life-threatening Injuries

News

Shots were fired early Friday morning in a Rockford neighborhood, but residents say they didn’t heard a thing.  Rockford Police were on the case, after a woman walked into a local hospital for shooting related injuries and now is fighting for her life.  Police say the woman knew her attacker and was targeted.

“We were just watching TV, and  my daughter went upstairs and said  ‘hey mom, there’s cops outside’ and I said ‘what? what happened?” said Sandra Aguilera, a resident who was unaware of the scene outside her home.

It was a shooting on Rockford’s west side.  Hispanic woman, 21, was the victim.  She was shot on the 700 block of Concord Avenue, just a couple blocks from West State street.  The victim’s name has not been released.

Local residents claimed they did not hear any gunshots or suspicious noises.  Most were surprised, when early Friday morning Rockford Police cars swarmed their neighborhood.

“There were a lot of cops and I thought uh oh what happened.,” said Aguilera. “I thought  it was an accident, but no they said somebody got shot there.”

Rockford Police officials say they are lead to believe the victim knew her attacker and that this wasn’t a random incident.  The suspect is described as a black male, 20 years old, 5’7″, and weighs about 150 pounds.  Rockford resident, Aguilera has lived in the neighborhood for two years.  She says this is the first she’s heard of any violent incident around her home.

“There’s a lot of people, but not really outside,” said Aguilera.  “That’s what I’m saying it’s so quiet down here.so, it’s weird that something happened right in front of the house.”

The victim is the hospital with serious injuries, but it’s unclear where she was shot.  If anyone has any information, officials urge that you contact the Rockford Police Department.
