A police officer is nearly hit by a suspect fleeing authorities following a hit and run accident.

Shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a hit and run in the 400 block of Midland Road in Janesville. A description was given of the suspect vehicle involved, and officers eventually located a car matching that description.

After pulling the vehicle over, officers made contact with its driver, Masha Geter, 23. Geter denied being involved in the accident. Officers did learn she was wanted for a warrant out of Whitewater, Wisconsin.

While questioning her about that warrant, Geter turned her car back on and began to flee the area. While attempting to stop the car, an officer was briefly caught in the vehicle as it sped off, and was almost hit.

The officer was not hurt.

After a brief police pursuit, officers called off the chase. A short time later, Geter crashed and was taken into custody by Wisconsin State Patrol.

She is charged with felony fleeing an officer, reckless driving, endangering safety and operating after revocation. She is being held at the Rock County Jail.
