Sock monkeys are an iconic piece of Rockford and one local woman is using them to help others.

Diane Seilkopf and her husband both lost three family members to cancer in a single year.  It was then she decided to take matters into her own hands and began sewing sock monkeys. The Belvidere woman sells them at craft shows and all the money goes to Relay for Life.  Some customers even started buying the monkeys and donating them back to her, which she then gives to patients at SwedishAmerican’s Regional Cancer Center.

“I actually like seeing the smile that somebody else is doing something for them and they know they’re not alone in their fight,” said Seilkopf.

This is the 10th year Diane and her husband have been making and selling monkeys.
