Members of the Freeport community came together Monday to thank those who protect and serve them.
Kelly Chesney and Tammy Byrnes worked to collect and organize gift baskets which they dropped off at both the Freeport and Stephenson County police headquarters this morning.
Officers and deputies received snacks, gifts, and more than $3,000 worth of gift cards.
All of it was donated by people in the community.
“I think it’s a good way for people to show we actually, in Freeport, love our police department and we embrace them and we appreciate them,” Chesney said. “So, I know, personally, there’s not a day goes by that I could ever do what they do, and I’m super grateful for that.”
Byrnes said her father served in the Freeport Police Department for 32 years.
