Workshop helps parents prepare their children for kindergarten

News

Alignment Rockford is the first organization of its kind to teach parents how to prepare their children for kindergarten.

Friday, Alignment Rockford celebrated an ongoing pilot workshop called Stay N’ Play at the Rockford Police Department’s District 3 headquarters on S. Newtowne Drive, with volunteers and participants — families from the Grove at Keith Creek housing development with children up to 5-years old.

The parent-child engagement playgroup was facilitated by various early childhood providers in Rockford — such as the Rockford Public Schools, the YMCA and Barnes and Noble — with the goal of reducing the isolation that some families feel and enhancing parent-child interaction activities that promote kindergarten readiness.

Seven families are involved in the 12-week program which began in March. The plan is to expand this fall to serve additional families in the Rockford area.
