Veterans their families came together on Tuesday to say thank you for those who served in the military during World War II.
Heartland Hospice held the 4th Annual ‘Keep the Spirit of ’45 Alive’ celebration at the Belvidere VFW.
The Spirit of ’45 event pays tribute to the greatest generation by remembering what veterans achieved for our country, while educating younger generations.
“The reason that we do these kind of events is to remember those that sacrificed for our freedom,” said Air Force Veteran, Roger Pelkey. “It’s too easy for us to forget that, because of the day to day activities and events that are going on, currently.”
More than 400,000 Americans made the ultimate sacrifice in WWII and never came home.
