YMCA of Rock River Valley Aims to Raise Funds for Youth Programs

This morning we are going live to preview The YMCA of Rock River Valley’s 5th annual Community Breakfast. About 250 people are expected to attend the event at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center. Funds raised at the breakfast support the YMCA’s annual campaign, which provides financial assistance for membership, camp, youth leadership, academic enrichment, high school completion programs and much more. The Y has a goal of $1.3 million raised in 2018.
People will be able to text their donation and it will show up on the thermometer on the screen at the event. All you have to do is send a text to 41444. In Message: Achievement $XX and your Name.
The Y chose the theme, “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” for its event this year. It will highlight the various programs that aim to enrich the lives of youth and teens to help them reach their full potential, and set them on the right path. One such program is Achievers, which is a career awareness and mentoring programming for area high school students. The program includes weekly leadership meetings, recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and college tours. The goal is to help the students develop career goals, instill self-esteem, provide role models, and enhance leadership and life skills. The Y will share the story of Kevin Horton, an Achievers alum who used the college tour to determine his school of choice. Kevin shared that without a sponsor for the college tour, he never would have been able to see the schools in advance. This program is funded through donations from the community.
