Students know once they finish high school and college, they’ll be joining the workforce and one group is making sure they’re prepared for the jump.
The Wabongo Leadership Council hosted a Youth Employment Series at Rock Valley College Saturday afternoon.
The event aimed at developing students soft skills, like resume building and how to excel during interviews, and making sure all students have the ability to take advantage of and succeed in future jobs and careers.
“Unemployment for young people of color is even more significant than it is for the general population, so it’s very important that we reach out to students and help them to engage with local employers, with the Rockford Park District, and other local employers to be able to walk into the opportunities that are available,” Community Engagement Chair for the Wabongo Leadership Council Anqunette Parham said.
Around 50 students attended the workshop and all will have the chance to put their new skills to the test when they go for real interviews with the Rockford Park District.
