The Bears have signed defensive lineman Ziggy Hood and they have terminated the contract of vested veteran DL Jeremiah Ratliff.

A four-time Pro Bowler (2008-11 seasons), Ratliff started 102-of-122 career contests with Dallas (2005-12) and Chicago (2013-15), totaling 380.5 tackles, 35 sacks, 27.5 TFLs, 18 pass break-ups, 13 fumble recoveries and five forced fumbles. In three seasons with the Bears, Ratliff appeared in 18 contests, including 17 starts (two in 2015), recording 63.5 tackles, eight sacks, 2.5 TFLs and 18 QB pressures.

“We felt moving forward without Jeremiah was in the best interest of our team,” Bears General Manager Ryan Pace said. “We appreciate his contributions and wish him well. We are also excited to be able to add Ziggy Hood to our roster.”

Hood has appeared in 96 games with 46 starts over six seasons with Pittsburgh (2009-13) and Jacksonville (2014), recording 164 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 17 tackles for losses, 24 QB hits, five fumble recoveries and seven pass break-ups. He appeared in all 16 games each season from 2009-14 after being drafted by the Steelers in the first round (32nd overall) in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Missouri. In the postseason, Hood appeared in four contests (three starts), collecting 14 tackles, including two sacks.
