Auburn’s Nevenhoven leads local State qualifiers in tennis

Auburn senior Quinten Nevenhoven is headed back to the State Tournament.  He cruised to the singles championship Saturday in Class 2A at Auburn.

Nevenhoven defeated John Wallace of Crystal Lake Central in the finals 6-0, 6-2. Nevenhoven had won his previous three matches in the tournament without losing a single game.

The doubles champions at Auburn were Lucas Crane and Anthony Buffington of Harlem. They defeated Hononegah’s Jason Dupont and Adam He 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 in the championship match.

Auburn sophomore Chris Park also advanced to state by finishing third in singles. Hononegah sophomore Thomas Ptacin finished in fourth place.

At the Freeport 1A Sectional (which was completed indoors at Boylan due to rain) Rockford Christian’s Finley Buelte and Trevor Kornfeld advanced to State in singles. Buelte finished third and Kornfeld was fourth. Boylan’s Jack Peterson and Joseph Cyrs advanced in doubles.

At the 1A Rochelle Sectional Dixon’s Daniel Ferguson and Jonathon Rivera teamed up to win the doubles event. Sterling’s Dillon Nitz took second place in singles.
