One of the top wrestlers in the Sateline has made her college choice. That’s right her college choice.

Belvidere North senior Mia Rodriguez has signed with current women’s national champion  Campbellsville University in Kentucky. Campbellsville is an NAIA school but in women’s wrestling it competes against all divisions and all levels of college wrestling.

Rodriguez has been wrestling against boys and holding her own throughout middle school and high school. She is also a state champion competing in the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Tournament for girls. She’ll go after another state championship this weekend.

In March Rodriguez was ranked 9th in the nation at 112 pounds by USA Wrestling.

She hopes to make an immediate impact at Campbellsville.

“As soon as possible honestly. That’s my hope. I know the school is the right fit. I know my coach is going to push me to work hard and I’m just going to keep working hard until all my hard work pays off.”

“I think she’s going to step into the lineup sometime during the year and she’ll be an All-American by the end of the year,” says Campbellsville coach Lee Miracle. “I’ll just go ahead and say that right now.”

Rodriguez held her signing at Belvidere North Monday afternoon with several friends in attendance.
