Boylan’s dominant defense was dominant again through three quarters Saturday in Sterling, but it gave up two scoring drives totaling ten points in the fourth quarter in a 10-7 loss to Sterling in Class 5A quarterfinal action.
The Titans took a 7-0 lead midway through the third quarter when Xavier Bryant had a strip-sack. Tim Fey grabbed the fumble and ran it back 45 yards for a touchdown.
But Sterling came back with a 72 yard drive with just over five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The drive was capped off by a four year touchdown run by running back Negil Bruce.
Sterling again got the football with 3:50 to play. The Warriors marched the ball down field giving kicker Eric Davila a shot at a game-winning 23 yard field goal with 3.7 seconds on the clock. After three consecutive timeouts by the Titans to try to ice Davila, Davils stepped up and calmly boomed the ball through the uprights ending Boylan’s season.
The Titans finish with a record of 10-2.
