The two regular season meetings between Rockford East and Rockford Auburn were close games, but it was a lopsided matchup Friday night at the 4A East Regional.
The E-Rabs dominated and won 68-35. Senior guard Chris Burnell scored 20 points to lead East. Sincere Parker got the E-Rabs going early with ten points in the first quarter. He finished the game with 19. Sha’den Clanton added 12 points for East.
It might have been the best performance of the season for East.
“I would say from an execution standpoint in terms of the gameplan that we wanted to implement and our guys bying into the gameplan and each other yes we knew if we were going to go do this that we would have a good chance of winning,” said head coach Roy Sackmaster. “I’m really proud of our guys. I’m really proud of the leadership from my seniors to get them all to go and buy in I just couldn’t be happier for these kids.”
“I just wanted to get my teammates involved and make sure everybody ate just like I did,” said Parker of his hot first quarter. “So we all could be on the same page and be happy, be happy to cut down nets like this.”
“We just executed and listened to coach,” said Clanton. “There’s more championships to come and we’re just going to succeed everything and just excel. Go all the way to the top.”
“It’s real satisfying,” said Burnell. “It just means a lot to us to come out here and work hard and get the ‘W’.
The E-Rabs boost their record to 31-2. They advance to the Rock Valley College Sectional Tournament next week.
