The Rockford East High School summer basketball league tipped off Monday night. One of the biggest stories was one of the players who wasn’t there…Sincere Parker.
Parker was the leading scorer on the East team that finished fourth in the State in Class 4A last season. He averaged 18.8 points per game, but Parker has decided to transfer to a Prep School in Arizona. Parker hopes to receive more exposure playing in Arizona, especially exposure to the PAC-12 schools.
East head coach Roy Sackmaster told Eyewitness News that he first learned Parker was leaving last week when he saw something about it on social media. Sackmaster, while not happy about losing such a talented player, still wishes Parker well.
“I think Sincere will do great (in Arizona). There’s no question he’s a great player,” said Sackmaster Monday to Eyewitness News. “He sees himself with a great opportunity and I hope he takes advantage of that opportunity and goes out there and does well for himself.”
“For our guys it’s the next man up and we’ve got a team full of champions. That’s kind of what I’ve stressed to them. Even our guys that are juniors coming in they won a championship when they were freshmen. They won tournaments last year. I’m looking forward going on a journey, taking on a challenge with them to go create their own legacy and their own name here at East.”
