A third Boylan-East girls basketball matchup is set for Thursday night in Hampshire. This time they’ll battle for a 4A Sectional Championship.
During the regular season Boylan beat East twice. In both games East stayed with Boylan for half the game before watching the Titans pull away in the second half.
If East can change its luck the E-Rabs will earn the school’s first sectional championship in girls basketball since 1986.
(Madi Hecox, East senior) “It’s hard to beat a team three times, so the better team will win tomorrow,” said East senior Madi Hecox. “East has never been a winning team. We’re the underdogs, so with the support of our school and our staff it’s an exciting environment to be around.”
“I’m glad that we’ve got another chance just to prove who we are and to get this ‘W’ against them,” says East senior Victoria Malone. “The third time is the charm.”
“East is a great team,” says Boylan center Sarah Welsh. “We’re ready. We know we can do it, but they always come out strong, so we need to come out even stronger from the start and play all the way through to the finish.”
“No coach likes to play each other three times. There’s just that mystical thing about it,” says Boylan coach Paul Perrone. “But you know what we’ve beaten them twice, so we have confidence. We know they’re a good team. They’ve been playing really good the last month and they’re on a mission.”
