Squads from Harlem and Belvidere North will lead a group of local cheerleading teams to the IHSA’S competitive state cheerleading championships next weekend.
Harlem won the sectional championship at Grayslake North Saturday in the large school division. It’s Harlem’s first sectional championship in the sport. Belvidere North won the coed division. The Blue Thunder are the defending state coed champions.
The top five teams in each division at Sectional qualify for state. Guilford qualified by finishing in fifth in the large school division. Boylan has advanced to state for the first time ever by finishing fourth in the medium school divison. Lutheran, North Boone and Byron are headed to state after finshing second, fourth and fifth in the small school division.
The state championships will be held Friday and Saturday February 1 and 2 at Grossinger Motors Arena, in Bloomington.
