Harlem Bowlers Seek State Repeat

Harlem High School has had six state championship girls bowling teams over the years. Number seven could happen this weekend.

The Huskies will be back at State going after a repeat after winning it all last year. They’re coming off a dominant performance at Sectionals last week where they won by a whopping 498 pins.

The girls believe they’re capable of performing even better.

Rebecca Hagerman) “I think we can do better, I mean we did really good last week and picked up a lot of our spares,” says bowler Rebecca Hagerman. “We just did awesome and I think we can do better.”

(Treasure Childs) “I think there’s more to us than that,” says another Harlem bowler Treasure Childs. “We can do way better than that.”

Childs bowled her first perfect game at the Sectional.

“Saturday the way we threw the ball and we were able to carry and were able to stay ahead of the transition was phenomenal,” says Harlem coach Jim Heathscott. “It’s where I thought they’d be all year.”

So what would it mean to the girls to repeat?

“It would mean the world,” says Hagerman. “It’s incredible! That’s our goal.”

“To do it again would be amazing!,” says Childs. “Being with the people that you love and doing what you love and winning something. It would be amazing again.”

The State Bowling Tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at the Cherry Bowl in Cherry Valley.
