Harlem girls ready to make their mark at State Track & Field Meet

Sports Connection

Fresh off their first Sectional Team Championship in Girls Track & Field in school history, the Harlem Huskies will take a lot of momentum into the IHSA State Meet this week.

The Huskies will have competitors in the following individual events:

Discus: Sr. Catie Dailey, Sr. Katie Fare
Shot Put: Sr. Katie Fare
Long jump: Senior Olivia Lewis
Triple jump: Senior Olivia Lewis
100 hurdles: Junior Cloey Fare
100m. run: Freshman Hannah Bilodeau
800m run: Senior Breanna Sheldon
Plus the 1600 relay, 800 relay and 400 relay.

Harlem hasn’t had an individual state champion since Julie Sorrentino won the shot put in back-to-back years in 1996 and 1997. Dailey could end that drought. She has the top throw in the discus going into  State. She has qualified for State the last two years. She took fourth last year.

“I am kind of nervous for it being my last time but with competing two years prior I feel like it’s just another track meet to me so I’m going to try and keep my nerves at bay and not have that ruin my experience,” said Daily.

Head coach Scott Sholl won’t count out any of his girls.

“Our girls really know how to bring their best at practice. We set large goals and we talk about them and these girls are a group that go after it, and in the biggest meets it seems like with this senior class, this group of girls they have their best meets.”

The State Meet will be held in Charleston at Eastern Illinois University.
