The battle between the NIC-10’s top two softball teams Friday didn’t turn out to be much of a battle at all. Hononegah rolled past Freeport 15-1.
The Indians jumped on the Pretzels for four runs in the top of the first inning. They added six more runs in the third and five more in the fourth inning.
Brooke Wintlend hit a home run and she drove in three runs for Hononegah. Renee Laird added two hits and three runs batted in. Hannah Haefner had two hits and she scored two runs while also stealing two bases.
Ashton Melaas was the winning pitcher while Freeport pitcher Taylor Murray took the loss.
Hononegah improves to 9-0 in NIC-10 play. Freeport slips to 8-1. For highlights click on the media player.
