NIC-10 Race Could Be One For The History Books

Sports Connection

With three weeks remaining in the NIC-10 race we could see a historic finish.

Currently Auburn, Boylan and Jefferson are tied for the lead with 9-2 records. East is 8-3. Each team has five games left to play.

The first big game will be played Friday night (Feb. 2) when Jefferson hosts Boylan. The J-Hawks will turn around next Wednesday and play at East. If the J-Hawks can win both of those games they’ll more than likely finish on top. If they split those two games they’ll be in a good position to at least tie for the championship, but there are no guarantees this season.

Here’s a look at the remaining games for each team:
Jefferson             East                         Boylan                 Auburn
Boylan                 at Belv. North             at Jefferson           Guilford
at East                Jefferson                    Freeport                at Hononegah
at Harlem            at Belvidere                Belv. North             Freeport
Belv. North           Auburn                      at Belvidere            at East
Guilford               at Hononegah             at Auburn              Boylan

The last time there were co-champions in the NIC-10 was the 2007-08 season when Boylan and Hononegah tied with 14-2 records. The last time there were tri-champions was the 1977-78 season with Auburn, Boylan and Harlem all earning a piece of the title. Believe it or not there was one season when four teams tied for the crown. That was in 1967-68 when West, Auburn, Guilford and Freeport all finished on top.
