NIC-10 turns down DeKalb’s request for membership

Sports Connection

The NIC-10 has denied DeKalb’s request for membership into the conference.

NIC-10 administrators have decided to stand pat with their current ten school membership and tabled all talk of expansion.  Earlier this month the NIC-10 turned down Maple Park Kaneland’s request for membership. The additions of  Kaneland and DeKalb would have added more travel time for the majority of NIC-10 teams.

DeKalb is now in a bind. It’s a school without a conference. DeKalb was also turned down for membership recently by the Fox Valley Conference and by the Upstate Eight. DeKalb athletic director Nicolas Kearfott tells us that DeKalb is preparing to be an independent in the 2019-20 school year.

DeKalb is currently a member of the Northern Illinois Big 12, but that conference is crumbling as most of its member schools will be leaving after next year.
