NIC-10 Turns Down Kaneland

Sports Connection

Will the NIC-10 expand or will it remain a ten school conference? Conference administrators are still mulling over the decision.

We do know that Kaneland high school in Maple Park southeast of DeKalb has been turned down for membership. That was first reported Tuesday by the Kane County Chronicle. Kaneland athletic director Peter Goff has confirmed to WTVO that Kaneland is out of the running.

Kaneland officials say they were told their school wasn’t a good fit for the NIC-10. They responded Monday night by agreeing to join the Interstate 8 Conference for one year.

DeKalb is still under consideration for membership in the NIC-10. DeKalb’s athletic director Nicholas Kearfott tells Eyewitness News that DeKalb officials are still waiting to hear back from the NIC-10.

Both Kaneland and DeKalb are currently in the NIB-12 conference which has crumbled as the majority of its members, including Rochelle and Sycamore, have agreed to join other conferences.
