Rockford Christian Names New Volleyball Coach

Rockford Christian Schools have named Wendy Owens as the new head volleyball coach.

As a former Division II college MVP and recognized by Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd”, Coach Owens comes to Rockford Christian with nine years of coaching experience. Owen’s received her bachelor’s degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio. As four-year college athlete she earned the titles of: MOC Player of the year and was selected to the NCCAA All-District I Team, the NAIA Great Lakes Region Second Team, and the NCCAA All-National Tournament Team as well as being inducted into the 2005 MVNU Hall of Fame.

With a 42-6 team record, Owens closed out her career at MVNU with 543 kills, breaking the old record of 485 kills. She also averaged 4.37 kills per game, breaking the old mark of 3.84. She was also selected as the team’s MVP by vote of her teammates.

Being named Conference & District Volleyball Coach of the Year, Owens is anxious to begin her coaching career at Rockford Christian Schools stating “I am excited for the opportunity to utilize my years of experience playing and coaching volleyball to not only build a strong volleyball program, but also invest into the lives of these young athletes and help equip them to live out their purpose in Christ, on the court and in the classroom.”

Owens is married to Pastor Chad Owens and has two children. In the family’s free time their passion is being missionaries to Swaziland Africa in which they travel 2-3 times a year.
