Andrew Wilhite struck out ten batters as Stillman Valley defeated Burlington-Central 3-2 to win the 3A Sterling Sectional Championship Saturday afternoon.

Saturday turned out to be an historic day for the Stillman Valley baseball program. The Cardinals captured their first sectional title in program history.

“I’m speechless,” says senior Andrew Wilhite. “This is amazing. We’ve never done this as a baseball team. So it’s just great for the players, the coaches, Stillman Valley as a town. It’s amazing.”

The win was number 30 this season, also a program-best.

“I’ve known most of these kids since they were four or five years old,” says Stillman head coach Scott Wilhite. “I’ve coached them in various sports all the way up through. It’s just a pleasure to be able to coach them.”

Stillman Valley will face Morton in the 3A Rock Island Super-Sectional on Monday at Augustana College.
