Senior basketball standouts from the Stateline will take the court one final time Saturday for the annual Rising Stars Classic All-Star games at Rock Valley College.

The first game will have the girls Area Stars taking on the girls NIC-10 stars. The Area girls team has an impressive roster that includes Rochelle’s all-time scoring leader Abby Lundquist, Ashton-Franklin Center All-State player Jaynee Prestegaard, and two members of Winnebago’s Sectional championship team Alyssa Thompson and Avery Williams.

They’ll be going up against a NIC-10 squad that includes Boylan’s Ashley Reyes and Frankie Schiro and the NIC-10′s all-time scoring leader Jordan King of Hononegah.

I’ve played with quite a few of the girls on my team and a few on the NIC-10 team so it’s super exciting, says Lundquist.

It’s a great opportunity for the Rockford area to showcase their talent and just have fun out there, says King.

In the boys’ game the Area Stars team will have a Byron feel to it with three Tigers on the team  Tony Eddy, Tanner Klein and Connor Harn and Byron’s Tom Schmidt will be the head coach. Other members of the team include Forreston guard Braedon Fyock and Rochelle’s 6’8 Johnny Beck. They’ll face a NIC-10 squad that includes three members of the East E-Rabs team that went to State Chris Burnell, Sha’Den Clanton and Andres Thompson, and Harlem’s outstanding backcourt duo of Treye Tucker and David Williams.

I’m excited to play the good competition, says Eddy. Obviously the East boys getting fourth in the State and the Harlem guys they’re all pretty good. I want to see how we can do against them.

The Area Stars should be strong in the backcourt with the Byron guards joining up with Fyock.
It should be good, says Fyock. Tony’s really good and Tanner too. I’m looking forward to that.

The girls game at Rock Valley College Saturday will begin at 6 p.m. The boys game will begin at 8 p.m. That afternoon there will also be a pair of middle school girls and boys all-star games beginning at 4 p.m.
